While people are tweeting and posting fb statuses about how today’s date is connected to Genesis 8:7-12, I found another 8-7-12 verse in Isaiah.

Isaiah 8

7 therefore the Lord is about to bring against them
the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates—
the king of Assyria with all his pomp.
It will overflow all its channels,
run over all its banks
8 and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it,
passing through it and reaching up to the neck.
Its outspread wings will cover the breadth of your land,
Immanuel [God with us]!”
9 Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered!
Listen, all you distant lands.
Prepare for battle, and be shattered!
Prepare for battle, and be shattered!
10 Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted;
propose your plan, but it will not stand,
for God is with us.
11 This is what the Lord says to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people:

12 “Do not call conspiracy
everything this people calls a conspiracy;
DO NOT FEAR WHAT THEY FEAR,
AND DO NOT DREAD IT.”

I think it’s weird that most people would only pay so much attention to what the Bible says when it talks about, to borrow the words of my friend, impending doom. Yes, these verses still talk about a flood, but there’s more to these verses than devastation and destruction.

I think verse 12 pretty much nails the point. We may not fully understand the reason behind what’s happening right now, but we should know that this is NOT a conspiracy from heaven. I like how “God is with us” has been mentioned twice here. This is why there is absolutely no reason for us to fear. The enemy’s strategy will be thwarted; his plans will not stand. God is with us. Again, I say, God is with us.

And while we keep referring to the Bible for signs of when the world will end and/or how it would end, why don’t we all start discovering the many promises that it holds for us, for our nation, for the world? Here’s one:

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” -Isaiah 41:10
