Wait

Russell Kelfer
(From the book – Wait: A Journey to Discovering the Heart of God)

Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried:
Quietly, patiently, lovingly God replied.
I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate,
And the Master so gently said,
“Child, you must wait.”
“Wait? You say, wait!” my indignant reply.
“Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!
Is Your hand shortened? Or have You not heard?
By faith, I have asked, and am claiming Your Word.

“My future and all to which I can relate
Hangs in balance, and You tell me to WAIT?
I’m needing a ‘Yes,’ a go-ahead sign,
Or even a ‘No’ to which I can resign.

“And Lord, You promised that if we believe
We need but to ask, and we shall receive.
And Lord, I’ve been asking, and this is my cry:
‘I’m weary of asking! I need a reply!’

He seemed, then, to kneel
And His eyes wept with mine,
And He tenderly said, “I could give you a sign.
I could shake the heavens, and darken the sun.
I could raise the dead, and cause mountains to run.

“All you seek, I could give, and pleased you would be.
You would have what you want -
But, you wouldn’t know Me.
You’d not know the depth of My love for each saint;
You’d not know the power I give to the faint;

“You’d not learn to see through the clouds of despair;
You’d not learn to trust just by knowing I’m there;
You’d not know the joy of resting in Me;
When darkness and silence were all you could see.

“You’d never experience the fullness of love
As the peace of My Spirit descends like a dove;
You’d know that I give and I save, for a start,
But you’d not know the depth of the beat of My heart.

The glow of My comfort late into the night,
The faith that I give when you walk without sight,
The depth that’s beyond getting just what you asked
Of an infinite God, who makes what you have last.

“You’d never know, should your pain quickly flee,
What it means that ‘My grace is sufficient for thee.’
Yes, your dreams overnight would come true,
But, oh, the loss if I lost what I’m doing in you!

“So, be silent, My child, and in time you will see
That the greatest of gifts is to get to know Me.
And though oft’ may My answers seem terribly late,
My most precious answer of all is still, ‘Wait.’”

Exploring Sta. Rosa

I was told to get off just right after the toll gate. That shouldn’t be hard to miss since I’m supposed to be seeing giant Coke and Sprite cans somewhere there.

The Coca-cola Plant in Sta. Rosa is considered the largest in Asia.

I, then, took a tricycle going to Walter Mart and waited for Chris there. We went to a Chinese restaurant called Ho Chai Lai for lunch.

Chris already had lunch at home so he just got Mais Con Hielo. I had Chicken and Mushroom with Rice. Lunch wasn’t that quick since we had a lot to talk about regarding Campus Ministry.

On a side note, the building where the restaurant had a really cool design for their restrooms, I couldn’t help but take some shots. :)

This looks way better in real life!

Chris had this really funny way of giving me an idea of how the whole of Sta. Rosa looks like. This is how I remember our conversation when we were about to leave the restaurant.

Chris: Nandito tayo ngayon sa middle-class side ng Sta. Rosa. From the toll gate, yung papuntang kanan, yun yung sosyal side. Dun tayo pupunta. Yung pakaliwa, papunta yun sa masa side.

Me: Eh ikaw, san ka nakatira?

Chris: Sa middle-class side. Pero in the near future, lilipat na ako dun sa sosyal side.

:D :D :D

The view from behind the tricycle. We traveled from the “middle-class” side to the “sosyal” side of Sta. Rosa (L-R).

I later learned that Sta. Rosa is dubbed as the little Detroit because it is where one would find the biggest manufacturing plants for cars, electronic devices, beverages, and other food products.

After taking a brief tour around, we stopped at Bo’s Coffee for another round of talking about Campus Ministry in Sta. Rosa and Davao. I was refreshed and encouraged and excited all at the same time. God is indeed doing an amazing job everywhere!

And this guy needs to be honored for not only being so passionate in reaching the next generation in Sta. Rosa but also for being a great tour guide!

Purity and Holiness by Ptr. Rico Ricafort

Session notes from the recently concluded LifeBox Staff Summit.

Purity and holiness is the core value of the Word of God.

We are not in a pursuit of purity and holiness. We are pursuing God.

We are in a battle for:

1. PASSION

Matthew 22: 37-38
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment.

This is about pursuing God. We cannot preach this without doing it.
If you love God, you will hate sin.
Passion for ministry does not equal passion for God.

2 Timothy 2:22
Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

What are you pursuing today?

If your motivation is not love then it would just be plain legalism. Your motivation to pursue purity and holiness should always be your love for God. The degree that you love God is the degree that you hate sin.

2. VISION

People who do not have vision cast off restraint.
Practice faithfulness even before you’re married (physical and emotional purity).

1 Timothy 5: 1b-2
Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.

Absolute purity extends even in the area of your emotions.

Ephesians 5: 3
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

What is your vision for your marriage? For your family?

Practice FULL DISCLOSURE. Don’t hide anything.

3. EXAMPLE

1 Timothy 4:12
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Watch your life and doctrine closely. We must be above reproach. Never take your responsibility lightly.

We must have a strong relationship with God (passion for God) and a strong relationship with others (accountability).

Don’t settle for anything less!

Then again, You are greater than all these…

The Greatness of Our God

Give me eyes to see
More of who You are
May what I behold
Still my anxious heart

Take what I have known
And break it all apart
You my God are greater still

No sky contains
No doubt restrains
All You are
The greatness of our God

I spend my life to know
And I’m far from home
To all You are
The greatness of our God

Give me grace to see
Beyond this moment here
To believe that there
Is nothing left to fear

And that You alone are high above it all
You my God are greater still

No sky contains
No doubt restrains
All You are
The greatness of our God

I spend my life to know
And I’m far from home
To all You are
The greatness of our God

And there is nothing
That can ever separate us
There is nothing that can ever
Separate us from Your love

No life no death of this I am convinced
You my God are greater still

And no words could say
Or song convey all You are
The greatness of our God

I spend my life to know
And I’m far from close
From all You are
The greatness of our God

No sky contains
No doubt restrains
All You are
The greatness of our God

I spend my life to know
And I’m far from home
To all You are
The greatness of our God

And so You trust me this much…

September 29, 2011

I asked.

You answered.

Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for man for the Lord, who is with you whenever you give a verdict. Now let the fear of the Lord be upon you, judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery… act carefully and may the Lord be with those who do well.” -2 Chronicles 19:6-7,11

And so You trust me this much.

I am overwhelmed. On the one hand grateful. On the other anxious. But the latter is not of You.

Now the song in the playlist goes: “Emmanuelle, God with us.” And now it all makes sense. And I burst into tears.

You are never distant. You do not just sit and see from afar. You are here. With me. For me. In me.

I only need to be still and hear You when You speak.

And so You trust me this much. That I would gladly, in every situation, pause and listen. That I shall have nothing to do with anything, anything at all, unless I hear You.

Oh, that I would never miss Your voice!
